Kurbits

A pattern inspired by the traditional Dala kurbits – but instead of stylized tulips and fantasy flowers, I built the motif using Swedish meadow flowers. I wanted to see what happens when traditional symmetry and ornamentation meet something more organic and everyday. The result is a pattern that feels both familiar and new. The work was created as a personal illustration project. I started by studying traditional kurbits painting, especially its structure and rhythm, and then replaced each element with plants I found in old botanical books. Everything was drawn digitally in Illustrator and colored in a muted, warm palette of soft pinks, deep blue-greens, pale gold, and off-white.
